Project

For Clothing Club’s debut album Fresh Fade, I developed the LP design and visual identity surrounding the release.

Clothing Club is an Aarhus-based trio whose music combines modern jazz, hip-hop and elements of house. Alongside the music, the band has built a playful universe around fashion, clothing and self-expression — something that appears throughout their name, song titles and overall personality.

I wanted the identity to feel as playful, energetic and unconventional as Clothing Club themselves.

Rather than approaching the LP as traditional jazz artwork, I wanted it to feel closer to an object from the world of fashion — expressive, slightly unexpected and full of personality.

Approach

One of the main challenges was balancing two worlds that are not traditionally associated with each other: contemporary jazz and fashion culture.

The identity needed to communicate that Clothing Club is a serious musical project without becoming visually serious or conventional.

The logo was inspired in clothing brands and made with the intention to being used, further on, on some clothing merch.

Challenges

The main challenge was finding the right balance between the composer's artistic vision and the expectations of the audience attending the concerts.

The visuals needed to reflect Matthias' ideas accurately while also being immediately understandable, intriguing, and visually appealing to people encountering the poster without any previous knowledge of the project.

Results

The final LP gave Fresh Fade a coherent visual world that connected naturally with the band's clothing-inspired concept and energetic sound.

The physical record became an extension of Clothing Club's identity rather than simply packaging for the music, bringing together photography, typography and layout into one recognisable expression.
